Andros the northern most of the Cycladic islands, is geographically  situated between Evia and Tinos. Andros and Evia are separated by the Cavo d'Oro straits and Andros and Tinos by the so called "narrow  strait" which is 3/5 of a mile wide. Andros is 39.8 km long, 16.7 km wide at its widest point, 374 square km and its coastline is about 110 km. all round. Andros is separated roughly into five parts by four mountain ranges which are as follows: Agia Saranda (714 meters high), Kouvara (1003 meters high), Gerakones (760 meters high) and Rachi (686 meters high). There are four rivers which cross the island from west to east through fertile valleys ideal for farming. These are the Arni River leading into the Bay of Levka, the Megalos Potamos leading to Paraporti Beach (Hora), the Achla River leading into Achla bay and the Dipotamata River which leads into the Sineti bay.
Gavrion and Batsi, both fishing villages on Andros remain as they were almost 20 years ago. Both villages have kept their traditional Andriotic style and culture. Friendly faces and service with a smile is what makes people come back, year after year to these picture postcard places. Gavrion, is where the main port of Andros is and Batsi is only a 15 minutes drive. Today Batsi and Gavrion are almost joined together both physically and also in their interest to develop aoristically. The proof of this is evident in the two small towns and in the 7 km. area between them where there are beautiful sandy beaches, small harbours and hidden coves. There are restaurants, tavern's, bars, cafeterias, car, boat and motor bike hire, water sports, jewellers, clothes shops and so on, all combine to provide travellers of all types of amenities for all.
